Robin’s Quotes From the Masters challenge on Bringing Europe Home http://bringingeuropehome.com/2012/07/21/quotes-from-the-masters-ovid-2/ this week comes from Ovid.
“Happy is the man who has broken the chains which hurt the mind, and has given up worrying once and for all.” Ovid
Many years ago, at our village’s annual summer fete, we were lucky enough to be treated to an appearance by the one and only Bozo the Clown, who I think at that time may have been played by Joey D’Auria.
The weather was much as it is now, extremely hot and humid, and a large crowd had turned out to see him. Of course all the kids wanted to go up and meet him and I’ll bet you there wasn’t one child that went away disappointed. This man was phenomenal! His genuine good humor and willingness to sit in full costume underneath all that make-up in order to greet those young fans was just awesome!
I don’t know if he was a happy man, although he certainly did give the impression that it was with a true sense of enjoyment that he spent all that time talking with his admirers, but I do know that he made a lot of other people happy that day, children and parents alike.
