When it comes to football, our family has always supported the Bears but since the girls grew up and started families of their own our allegiance has shifted somewhat to include The Packers and Colts. If the Bears can’t get it done, we cheer for the next best thing.
We happened to be in downtown Chicago on Saturday and decided to check out the activities in Grant Park, the site of this year’s NFL Draft celebrations, the first time this event has been held in Chicago in 50 years.
As usual the city put on a good show. It seemed well organized, although by Saturday the crowds had probably dwindled and those who were there didn’t seem particularly interested in the main proceedings but the weather was perfect for just strolling around and enjoying the sights.
Apart from all the usual food and memorabilia stalls, Aerodium provided a wind tunnel called the Sweetness Simulator, named after Bears Legend Walter Payton, where visitors could soar above the crowds. This seagull looked rather startled to see two humans flying around in what he probably thought was his own territory.
Let’s hope the Bears picked the right players. It’s been a while since the magical days of Coach Ditka storming on the sidelines, Refrigerator Perry picking Walter Payton up in his arms and literally carrying him over the line for a disallowed touchdown and Mike Singletary staring down the opposition; happy days!!!
