The Weekly Photo Challenge from the folks on The Daily Post at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/09/06/unusual/ is An Unusual POV. Even the term POV had me flummoxed for a moment. In the days before text-speak we would have referred to it as ‘an unusual point of view.’ Now we must learn to recognize words and phrases by these ghastly abbreviations.
Behind the scenes of the Chicago Tonight show at the PBS TV station, WTTW, Channel 11, in Chicago, IL. (How’s that for abbreviations??)
The English language is a beautiful thing when expressed by writers who know what they’re doing. I don’t doubt the Immortal Bard would be turning in his grave were some of his more famous lines to be subjected to such butchery as;
“Alas poor Yorick. IKHH.”
“Friends, Romans, countrymen, LMYE.”
“TB, or NTB, that ITQ:”
“Oh Romeo, Romeo! WAT Romeo?”
Or worse still, “The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the GRFH upon TPB.”
But I digress.
An unusual point of view or something seen from an unusual or different angle;
I could be wrong but I don’t suppose these people, pictured enjoying a ride at the Pioneer Days Festival in Arlington Heights, Illinois, would normally be seen upside down with their legs in the air.
Something else you wouldn’t see happening too often in Arlington Heights is the old Village Hall being demolished.
Things look a lot different over time. This once luxurious interior of an old-time railway carriage is now merely a dusty remnant of a bygone era, languishing in a shed at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois.
And finally an unusual view of the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. If you haven’t seen this building, it’s decorated inside and out with different colored corn and other grains. Of course it’s nowhere near as fancy as the original that was built back in 1892 but it’s still worth a look if you’re out that way. We happened to arrive there when they were replacing one of the murals and were interested to see how they plan out the picture before adding the plant material.
